A Miracle in Tibet

Dawa made a promise that if God would heal her brother, then she would believe in Him… and a miracle happened!

During her high school years Dawa stayed in a shared house run by Christians. Being raised in a Tibetan Buddhist environment, she scoffed at their beliefs but was impressed by their kindness to her, and grew to love and respect them.

Then one day a tragic accident happened to Dawa’s older brother. He fell from the seventh floor of the building where he was a construction worker. The doctor told them that her brother would become paralyzed, especially bad news for Dawa and her mother who relied on him for support since the death of Dawa’s father. Her Christian friends stayed with Dawa and prayed for her brother’s recovery. They shared testimonies of God’s healing. First, she didn't believe them but finally decided to try their way of prayer. Dawa told God that if He is real and would heal her brother, then she would believe and follow Him.

The day before her brother’s surgery to fix his broken ribs and spinal column, a miracle happened! Her brother was able to get up from his bed and walk! The doctor discovered that the broken ribs and spinal column were already healed, so there was no need for the operation. Dawa was ecstatic and told her family that it was God who healed her brother.

Dawa publicly declared her faith through water baptism the next year. Despite the amazing miracle of healing, her brother and mother are still firm followers of Buddhism. Dawa was not able to convince them to believe in Jesus, but because of her story they gave her permission to follow Christ, which is almost unheard of in their Buddhist-centered culture. Did you know… Tibetan Buddhism is the most mystical among Buddhist sects. Its most sacred temple, the Jokhang temple in Lhasa, was constructed on what they believe to be the heart of a monstrous demon that had been controlling the Tibetan region, in order to demonstrate Buddhism’s power over it.
