Would You Tell Me About Sin?

“Without a word of introduction the Buddhist man asked me an astonishing question.”

Paul, a Christian cross-cultural worker in Thailand, a majority Buddhist nation, went to the fresh market to buy some bananas. He was surprised when an elderly man approached him and said, “I am a Buddhist and last night I kept thinking about sin. Can you tell me what Christians believe sin is? Or could you take me to a church so I can find out?”

Paul was shocked. Opportunities like this do not happen in Thailand’s extremely closed spiritual atmosphere. What could have caused this man to ask this question?

Paul was able to spend an hour with Mr. Sai talking about everything from creation to Jesus and His death on the cross. Since then Paul and Sai have met twice, and Paul invited Sai to church. Sai is not quite ready to come yet, but he has a strong desire to know more about God.

These kinds of encounters are extremely rare in the Buddhist world. Through your prayers for Buddhists, God creates in them hungry hearts for Jesus. When the Holy Spirit begins to bring conviction of sin, righteousness, and judgement (John 16:8), people are attracted to God and the evangelistic task becomes easy.

Would you commit to pray this month on the Buddhist holy days listed below for the conviction of the Holy Spirit to fall throughout the Buddhist world? Pray that hundreds and thousands of people will be overcome with the desire that Sai has and open their hearts to the gospel.
