Sara's Breakthrough

It almost never happens this quickly: just two weeks after sharing about Jesus with Sara, she shocked me by saying she was ready to make a life-long commitment to Jesus!

Throughout her childhood, Sara was drawn to the supernatural realm, though she often felt harassed by unseen forces. She searched for answers to fill her inner void, but nothing satisfied her. She grew up in a family that practiced traditional Taiwanese religious beliefs—a mixture of Buddhism, Taoism, and local folk religion—which made her aware of the spiritual realm but did not provide answers to her questions. 

By her mid-twenties Sara was in need of a breakthrough. Then a friend invited her to church. I met her that day and we became friends immediately. I invited her to come surfing with me, and eventually had the chance to share some of my testimony with her. About two weeks later, she shocked me by saying she wanted to get baptized! I asked her what made her want to follow Jesus. She said, “Since I was little, I could always feel there was someone watching over me, but I never knew who it was. So recently I prayed and asked who it was, and it said, ‘Jesus.’”

Quickly we got Sara in the baptism class at church and connected her with a small group so she could receive discipleship. But God was not done yet! Sara told her family about her conversion and what Jesus had done for her. Her family decided they also wanted to become followers of Jesus. About three months after Sara first walked into church, I was able to baptize her and her entire family together—dad, mom, sister, and Sara! They continue to attend church and are growing in their relationships with Jesus. Praise God who watches over us all… even before we know it’s Him!
