Noy in Laos
Reaching Buddhists in a closed, Communist country doesn’t happen without risk. Sharing the message of Christ only happens when men and women commit to spend themselves for the sake of the Gospel. It took this type of risk, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to reach a young woman named Noy.
Noy was born in the remote mountains of Asia during a time when her country was overtaken by war. She never had the opportunity to meet a believer or even hear the name of Jesus until well into her thirties. Noy was working at the family restaurant when she met a Christian NGO director. The director stepped out in faith and began to leave small tracts for Noy that explained the story of the Creator and Savior. Noy kept the tracts and read them over and over, never talking about them, but pondering them in her heart.
Soon after, the director was no longer allowed to live in the closed country. Before he left, he was determined to leave a Bible with Noy. Stepping out in faith and risking being caught by the Communist police, he gave a Bible to Noy and she cherished it! When the director returned a few months later for a short visit, Noy had already read the entire Bible, Old and New Testaments, cover to cover! She told the director that she believed the story of Christ and had already prayed and asked Jesus to be her Savior!
From that step of faith, an entire underground church was birthed. What started with five believers meeting for prayer in Noy’s apartment has now flourished into an underground fellowship of 300 people. Noy is one of the pastors.
Bold steps of faith, Holy Spirit empowerment… this is what it takes to see the Buddhist world changed by the Gospel!
