More Christian Than Buddhist
We met Kai when he was a young, newly married man. He grew up in a Buddhist home, married a Buddhist, and only knew Buddhist ways. He had a gentle spirit and a desire to serve any way he could. We hired Kai to work in our office, and he also helped us navigate all things Myanmar as we adjusted to our new country and home.
We lived life with Kai, and his family became like our own family. He watched us. He saw us pray for people and situations and he saw us serve others with the love of Christ. Our entire team ministered to Kai in different ways. We prayed for him and for his family, and over time he began ask us for prayer about specific things.
Often on Sundays he drove us to church and we invited him to attend. He began to ask questions and seemed interested in Jesus. One of our team members gave him a Myanmar Bible that he read in his spare time.
One day I asked, “Kai, do you think you are Christian or Buddhist?” He thought for a minute and said, “I feel like I’m more Christian than Buddhist.” He told me he had even talked to his father and asked for permission to become a Christian, though he had not yet professed faith.
Five years later, I was speaking at a church filled with mostly young people. Kai was in the service, sitting in the back. I gave an invitation for people to accept Christ, and felt like God was speaking to someone specifically. God prompted me to give the invitation one more time—immediately Kai stood to his feet and raised his hand. Finally Kai decided to be a Christian!
As the only Christian in his family, Kai has limited support, which is very difficult in a culture built on Buddhist principles. Please pray for Kai to maintain his belief in God and grow in his relationship with Christ.
